The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the creation of a Special Task Force to address rising security concerns in Abuja. The task force will target uncompleted structures, abandoned plots, and other neglected areas used as hideouts by criminal elements.
The directive was revealed by Mr. Adamu Gwary, Director of the Department of Security Services, FCT Administration. The initiative aims to combat the activities of miscreants who vandalize government assets and infrastructure.
The FCT Security Committee has identified uncompleted buildings, abandoned plots, and other neglected spaces as hubs for criminal activities. The Commissioner of Police in the FCT has been tasked with coordinating efforts with other security agencies to form a dedicated task force.
The task force will commence a strategic cleanup of criminal hideouts across the FCT within the next two to three weeks. Additionally, the FCT Administration’s Land Department is conducting a census of undeveloped plots, and plot owners have been directed to develop their land or face revocation of their allocations.
The Minister has also instructed the acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to secure all under-bridge areas in the territory. The FCT Police Command has intensified daily raids on criminal black spots across the city to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard both public and private infrastructure
