Nigerian crossdresser and social media personality Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, is set to be transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja for questioning over allegations of bribery and corruption.
The EFCC intercepted Bobrisky on Thursday night at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, removing him from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight. Officials from the commission indicated that he will be flown to Abuja on Friday for further interrogation.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Wilson Uwajaren, EFCC’s Director of Public Affairs, hinted at the possibility of new charges. Uwajaren explained that Bobrisky could face legal consequences if the allegations against EFCC officers are proven to be baseless. “One can be charged for giving false information to the EFCC, let alone making false allegations against the commission,” he stated.
A source within the EFCC disclosed that the arrest was prompted by Bobrisky’s failure to respond to multiple invitations for questioning. “He has accused us of bribery and corruption, yet failed to substantiate these claims. He was also summoned by the National Assembly on the matter and did not show up. We had no other choice but to take him in for questioning,” the source said.
The situation stems from an alleged voice note, where Bobrisky reportedly claimed to have bribed EFCC officers with N15 million to avoid money laundering charges. The voice note, shared online by popular social critic Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, quickly went viral, attracting widespread public attention.
