Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) banner have gathered in Abuja for a high-level meeting as the party prepares for its upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) session. The meeting is currently being held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro.
Among those in attendance are prominent PDP governors, including Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau. More governors from the party are expected to join the discussions as they unfold.
Meeting With Other Party Organs
The governors are also set to meet with other critical bodies within the PDP, such as the National Working Committee (NWC), the Board of Trustees (BoT), and the National Assembly caucus. These consultations are a key tradition in the PDP, where various party organs gather to align their strategies ahead of the NEC meeting.
Crucial Decisions Ahead for the PDP
The NEC, which is the party’s highest decision-making body, will convene on Thursday to address critical issues affecting the party. The NEC includes an influential mix of PDP state governors, serving and former presidents, ex-vice presidents, BoT members, national assembly leaders, state chairmen, and founding members of the party.
As is customary, several PDP groups—including the PDP Governors’ Forum, the BoT, the National Assembly caucus, and the national caucus—meet ahead of the NEC session to ensure unified decision-making.
The NEC is expected to make significant decisions aimed at addressing the internal crises currently facing the PDP, as the party seeks to strengthen its position for the 2027 general elections.
